An Athenian from 5th Century BCE
I think an Athenian from 5th Century BCE wouldn’t admire our new democracy. An Athenian wouldn’t like how we picked our president by the way we looked at him and the way we voted for him. Our process is really different from theirs. We are really strict on how we pick our president. We want him to be old enough, he needs to be born in U.S.A and he needs to be really well educated. An Athenian could have been a young common man over 18. He just needed to rule about trade and war. He didn’t have to focus on laws like we do now. I think an 18 year old man can’t rule over people trade and war. All this to an Athenian this will sound to strict and funny. Also the way they voted, is really interesting to us. They just wrote a name of who they want a leader to be and put it in to a vase.

Blog Entry #5: How do we see Mayan values exemplified in modern society?
We can still see Mayan values exemplified in our modern world today. We still today look at their architecture, eat their foods, look at their art, study their mythology , and even play their ball game. Some parts of the buildings are still build in Mayan architecture. We still go to restaurants to try Mayan food and see what they ate back then. Sometimes even on the streets we pass by we see a drawing, in Mayans style. But it’s not used any more how they used to use their drawings. They used their art for communicating and religious purposes. We still look at their mythology. Mayan s had a calendar which was really true and it ended on 2012 December 21st. So now a movie just came put about it. And any time we go to a park and we want to have fun we play soccer, which has basic roots of Mayans playing their ball game.
